What will you learn?
On the Advanced Course you will complete what we call Adventure Dives. These are actually dives from different specialty diver areas such as Wreck, Drift, Buoyancy, Underwater Digital Photography, Night and so on. There are two dives you have to do for Advanced Open Water certification. This is The Deep Adventure Dive (Max 30m) and Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive. These 2 are very important dives to learn which is we call them "Core Dives." On the course you will not only increase the depth to which you are allowed to dive to, but also broaden your scuba diving knowledge, skills and experience. This also means that you will be allowed to dive more dive sites and therefore be able to travel to more diving locations around the world.
The other 3 Adventure Dives on your PADI Advanced Course on Phuket you can choose from this list of PADI Adventure Dives:
There are more, however we obviously cannot run an Altitude Dive on Phuket for example.

Which are the best Adventure Dives for the Phuket Dive Sites?
We get asked this all the time so we wrote a Blog specially about it for you: "Choosing PADI Advanced Open Water dives on Phuket"
Your PADI Advanced Course includes these dives as this gives you the chance to try the types of scuba diving. You can choose dives that interest you, or those which you would like take in order to improve your skills. Peak Performance Buoyancy is a good example as EVERYONE wants to improve their buoyancy!
Advanced Open Water Home Study
First of all you will need to read the various relevant chapters in your Advanced Open Water Diver manual (Digital or Paper.) After that you need to complete the relevant Knowledge Reviews found at the end of each chapter of the manual. These will be will reviewed together with your PADI instructor, probably on the boat, before each of your PADI Advanced Open Water dives.
PADI has some GREAT options for the “classroom” portion of the course. In fact you can actually start your course RIGHT NOW, TODAY from the comfort of your own home! Furthermore PADI has been developing its library of Digital products and offers you a variety of exciting options. Most of all, as with the PADI Open Water Course, you can choose from Advanced Open Water Touch, digital, PDF manuals and Online study called eLearning.
The Phuket dive sites offer great options for the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course. These include the sunken passenger ferry The King Cruiser (our favorite Phuket Wreck Dive). In addition the beautiful structures of Anemone Reef and the Leopard Sharks at the aptly named Shark Point offer some awesome dives and experience.
After all who wouldn't want to take a PADI Fish ID or Digital Underwater Course Dive on Shark Point?
Now you have completed the PADI Advanced Course what type of diving do you like the best?
In fact EVERY PADI Adventure Dive from the Advanced Course has EXACTLY the same Performance Requirements as the FIRST Dive of the same PADI Specialty Diver Course. This means that when you are doing Adventure Dives on your PADI Advanced Course, you are also actually doing dives from a PADI Specialty Diver Course. Make sense? So actually the only difference between the PADI Advanced Open Water and a PADI Specialty Diver Course, is that Specialty Diver Courses go into much more detail and have more dives in the particular Specialty Dive Area.
In fact The Adventure Dive on the PADI Advanced is just your taster of what is to come! For example the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course has 2 dives. As such, if you had already taken the Peak Performance Buoyancy Adventure Dives on your PADI Advanced Open Water Course? Then you guessed it, you would only need to take the 2nd Peak Performance Specialty Dive! If you did the Drift Adventure Dive on your PADI Advanced then you would only need to complete the 2nd Drift Specialty Diver Course dive, and so on.
Now how cool is that?
The Wreck Specialty has 4 dives. Thus if on your PADI Advanced Course you took the PADI Wreck Adventure Dive, then you would have already done the 1st dive of the Wreck Specialty. In that case you would only need to do 3 more Dives to be certified as a PADI Wreck Specialty Diver! For the Deep Diver Specialty there are 4 Open Water Dives. Again for PADI Advanced Certification you have already successfully completed the Deep Adventure Dive / Deep Specialty Diver Course Dive 1. Consequently you would only need to complete Deep Specialty Dives 2,3 & 4.
Please follow this link for more details of PADI Specialty Diver Courses .
So once you are certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver you would be able to move onto your PADI Rescue Diver Course. And Rescue is what you need for your PADI Master Scuba Diver rating!
