PADI DEEP DIVER COURSE: FROM 9,900 THB
A PADI Deep Diver likes it Deep, or the so the saying goes ...
Have you ever had the urge to go a little deeper? Maybe the you friends are diving is at 25m? Or maybe the wall drops off to 40m but you can only dive half way down? Which is just not quite deep enough to take photos of the schooling sharks at 30m like the other divers on the boat. If this is you, then maybe the PADI Deep Diver Course is what you are looking for.
The PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course is one of PADI’s most popular and successful PADI Specialty Diver Courses. The course teaches you the knowledge and the proper techniques for safely diving deeper than 18m, specifically the 20-40m depth range. In addition, the PADI Deep Diver Course is the ONLY PADI course to qualify you to dive to 40m.

PADI Deep Diver Course: Are you ready to dive deeper than 18m?
After all what could go wrong diving deep? Right ???
The PADI Deep Diver Specialty Diver Course is designed to teach scuba divers how to safely engage in Deep Recreational No-Decompression scuba dives to a maximum depth of 40m. Furthermore, this is the ONLY Course in the PADI System to train divers down to 40m. Remember that 40m is the maximum depth for Recreational Diving. If you wish to go deeper than 40m, no problem, but now you are entering the Technical Diving Realms.
Pressure and depth
On your PADI Open Water Diver Course, you learnt the deeper you go, the more pressure increases. Thus, the more the pressure increases, the smaller the volume and the greater the density. Therefore, as a recreational diver, this translates into the deeper we dive, the faster we will use our air supply. In fact, you would be probably be breathing roughly 2 1/2 times more air at 40m than at 10m! Consequently, we will absorb Nitrogen faster. And in turn, this then results in less dive time or shorter No Decompression Limits. And this is why on your PADI Deep Diver Course you will learn how to rig and deploy a "Drop Tank." Or in simple English, an extra tank hanging at 5m in case of emergency.
Another risk for a deep diver is that we are more susceptible to DCS or Decompression Sickness. This is a result of the increased Nitrogen loading and the distance from the bottom to the surface. However, these are only some of the concerns of deep dives, and are issues we will look at carefully.
First of all you need to read your PADI Deep Diver Specialty Manual and complete the 2 Knowledge Reviews. Then when you arrive your PADI Instructor will review these with you on the boat before the dives.
Course Topics include:
- Decompression Theory and the causes and consequences of DCI and of Gas Narcosis
- A review of the RDP and Dive Computers
- Risk factors, Safety stops and Emergency Decompression Procedures
- Buddy contact and neutral buoyancy deep diving techniques
- Special equipment for Deep Diving incl Reels, Descent lines, Buoys, SMBs
- Calculating Gas Supply and managing low or out-of-air situations at depth
- Rigging and setting up a suitable Drop Tank and other Emergency Air Supplies
The reason PADI Deep Diver training is so important is because the deeper we go, the greater the chance of something going wrong. Which is fine, as long as everything does go as planned. However, as we go deeper, the surface becomes further and further away and therefore harder to reach. This in turn can add stress, stress being one of the primary triggers of panic underwater. So if you are low or out of air at 40m, the surface is a very, very long way. Hence the need for proper Deep Diver Training.
For the most part scuba diving accidents usually result from several errors that link into a chain. Typically they tend to be minor incidents, however they often have the potential to "snow ball." As such, minor issues which could have averted, can now become serious issues. And the deeper we go, the shorter and shorter that chain becomes. This is why the PADI Deep Diver is a great course for all scuba divers, not only for the deep diver.
What you are going to learn about deep diving is also very useful for you as a diver. No matter where you dive and whatever depth you choose to dive to!
The Deep Diver Specialty Course is a important course for anyone serious about their scuba diving knowledge and skills to take ...
Have you have got the Deep Diving Bug?
If so, then there are a number of PADI courses which can supplement the knowledge and skills you gained on this course.
Many Divers take the PADI Wreck Specialty Diver Course in conjunction with the PADI Deep Diver Course. This is because that many Wrecks lie in deeper waters, quite often in the 20-30m range. Also another popular type of diving is Deep Drift Dives along walls, which can be nothing short of spectacular!
While many people love the excitement of “going deep” the limited bottom time due to depth can be off-putting. However, as a deep diver you are trained and should be prepared for this. For example, you have 9 min at 40m, if calculated on the PADI RDP or 20 minutes at 30m. And with the evolution of modern technology the past 15 years, Recreational Rebreathers are making huge strides into the recreational scuba diving market. As such you will find Rebreather diving is nowhere near the same as 10 or even 5 years ago.
In contrast, if you are diving a Poseidon MKVI or Se7en CCR Rebreather, for example. Then you will use pretty much the same amount of gas on a 10m dive as you would a 30m dive. Therefore, this could easily be a THREE HOUR no decompression recreational dive.
